What is the best season to make this recipe?

This Spicy Salmon Tartare is a very simple dish that can be enjoyed year-round.

With that said, I particularly love to make it during spring and summertime! That is because the vibrant colors of mango, avocado, and peppers mirror the sunny days, making it a perfect addition to your seasonal menu.

What are the health benefits of this dish?

Salmon is rich in omega-3 fatty acids essential for heart health and brain function.

Additionally, the fruits and vegetables that I use here provide a wealth of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, supporting overall well-being and immune function.

With its lean protein and nutrient-dense ingredients, tartare is truly a nutritious choice for a balanced diet.

Where can I buy the required ingredients?

For the freshest ingredients, I recommend visiting your local fishmonger, farmer’s market, or specialty grocery store.

If you have a winder choice, it is better to check if the salmon is grown in a sustainable environment.

Can I substitute any of the ingredients?

You can customize this simple salmon appetizer to your taste. For example, salmon can be substituted with trout or even tuna. Well, any fish that you enjoy really.

You may also substitute mango with pineapple or papaya for a tropical twist, or swap red pepper for cucumber for a milder flavor.

Feel free to experiment with different herbs and citrus juices to tailor the dish to your taste. I love to add parsley sometimes instead of cilantro, and spring onions instead of chives.

Can I make this dish part of a menu?

Absolutely! Spicy Salmon Tartare pairs beautifully with a variety of dishes, making it a wonderful addition to any menu.

Serve it as an elegant appetizer at your next dinner party or a refreshing starter for a summer dinner.

For a main dish, serve Beef Wellington.

For dessert, go with my Chocolate Raspberry Tart or Raspberry Pavlova.

Which drinks pair well with this dish?

The vibrant flavors of Spicy Salmon Tartare can be complemented by many beverages.

I always choose some white wine to serve with salmon. The best choice would be Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio or Encruzado which provide a refreshing contrast to the richness of the salmon. Sparkling wines work great, too, adding a touch of elegance to this amazing appetizer.

For non-alcoholic options, consider serving citrus-infused sparkling water or herbal iced tea for a refreshing twist.

How long can I store the leftovers?

While Spicy Salmon Tartare is best enjoyed fresh, leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.

However, it is important to note that the texture and flavor may diminish over time, so it is recommended to consume the tartare as soon as possible. Plus, you will not have any leftovers 😉

Recipe tips & tricks

  • When selecting salmon fillets, opt for sushi-grade or sashimi-quality fish to ensure freshness and safety.
  • Dice the ingredients finely and uniformly for a consistent texture and presentation.
  • Adjust the level of spiciness to suit your taste preferences by adding more or less chili pepper.
  • Serve this salmon tartare chilled alongside crispy corn chips or bread crackers for a delightful contrast of textures.
