When I think of three of my favorite pizza types, American Style Cheese Pizza recipe is definitely one of them. As my amazing friend Mirlene from Savory Thoughts says: “Good food – good life”. Hence, we are going to cook some good food today… American style cheese pizza from scratch! One condition though: you’ve got to love cheese. Lots of cheese!
Even if you do not have a wood-burning oven, this recipe is perfect for making some honest pizza, super-thin and swiftly cooked. You will be surprised how fast it will become an all-time favorite among your family and friends 🙂 And you don’t need to spend a fortune to make it enough for the whole gang.
Great Dough = Great Pizza
Just as every house needs a rock-solid foundation, every pizza needs good dough. Once you get the dough right, call it done. Well, almost.
If you carefully follow the steps below and pull off the dough right, everything else will be a breeze. But no worries, this recipe is extremely easy so you won’t have any problems with it.
Nevertheless, let me know how it goes in the comments please 🙂
I love to eat fresh oven-baked pizza and really enjoy making dough that tastes exactly the same every time I make it. And, thankfully, there is no need to make this pizza recipe identical every time – experiment with toppings. I added a bit more of everything today.
Needless to say, cheese and pepperoni are besties. They always were and always will be!
What is the best season to make this recipe?
American Style Cheese Pizza is a timeless classic that can be enjoyed year-round. However, it can be a true hit at game nights, outdoor picnics and your very special cheat days. 🙂
If you love experimenting with toppings, summers offer an abundance of fresh ingredients, so you can always add a tomato or two if you wish.
What are health benefits of this dish?
While pizza is not the healthiest example out there, it is important to note that cheese (this this pizza has plenty of) is a great source of protein and calcium. If you decide to add extra toppings (such as vegetables, for example), then you will have some fiber and vitamins, too.
Where can I buy the required ingredients?
You can find all or most of the ingredients at your local grocery store. Make sure to get quality cheese that is fresh and can be melted easily. If you go with tomatoes or other vegetables as extra toppings, your local farmers’ market may be the best place to get those.
Can I substitute any of the ingredients?
Absolutely! One of the joys of making this American cheese pizza recipe is the creative freedom that it offers.
Try experimenting with different cheeses, such as provolone or cheddar (I used Mozzarella).
Considering making the traditional tomato sauce or even pesto. Olive tapenade is another alternative.
Customize your toppings to suit your tastes, from mushrooms to spinach to artichokes. The possibilities are endless!
Can I make this dish to be part of a menu?
American Style Cheese Pizza is usually the star of the show, so it is your main dish. It has lots of calories, so if you want to add more dishes to your meal, go for something suprt light – consider pairing it with a fresh salad, garlic breadsticks, or a platter of charcuterie and olives.
You may also create a “build-your-own-pizza” station where your guests will be able to craft their perfect slice.
For a dessert, go for a light fresh fruit salad.
Which drinks pair well with this dish?
American cheese pizza is very versatile when it comes to beverage pairings. Classic choices include soda, beer, or iced tea.
If you prefer wine, go for a glass of your favorite Rosé wine or a crisp white like Pinot Grigio or Encruzado wine.
For a non-alcoholic option, try sparkling water with a twist of lemon or a refreshing lemonade.
How long can I store the leftovers?
We all know that fresh pizza is the best, however if you happen to have some leftovers, you can store them in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. To keep the pizza from becoming soggy, store it in an airtight container or even wrap individual slices in foil.
If you need to store it even longer, freeze the pizza slices in a freezer-safe bag for up to 2-3 months.
