This Grape Shrimp Tartare recipe is a refreshing dish that unites the delicate flavors of shrimp with the sweet and tangy taste of grapes.
Tartare typically refers to a dish in which raw ingredients, such as seafood or meat, are finely chopped or minced and then seasoned to enhance their flavors.
Where can I buy the ingredients for this tartare?
It is better to buy some fresh shrimp from your local seafood market or store, so you know it is 100% fresh. All other ingredients are easy to find in any other store.
What are the substitutions?
You can substitute basil with a parsley sprig.
Also, you may use red grapes instead of green grapes, which also tastes really good. I made this tartare with red grapes in the past, and it was spectacular, too.
What are the health benefits of grape shrimp tartare?
Grape Shrimp Tartare can offer a variety of health benefits. For example, shrimp is a low-calorie source of protein and is rich in iodine, selenium and vitamin B12. Shrimp is great if you are on a balanced diet.
Green grapes are a good source of vitamins C and K, as well as dietary fiber and antioxidants. They contain natural sugars and give a refreshing sweetness to the dish.
What kind of drink pairs well with this shrimp tartare?
My shrimp tartare is a very light and refreshing appetizer with popping flavors from chili, basil, and fresh lemon juice. I recommend serving it with a glass of white wine or Vinho Verde (Portuguese young green wine). Other options are:
- Sauvignon Blanc: This white wine pairs nicely with seafood overall.
- Chardonnay: Choose lightly oaked Chardonnay, as this wine shouldn’t beat the delicious flavor of shrimp tartare. Choose some citrus flavors in wine, which help to enhance the dish even more.
- Pinot Grigio: This type of wine can complement the fruity aspects of the tartare and help to enjoy the appetizer even more.
It’s a good idea to taste the wine alongside a small portion of the tartare before serving it to your family and friends – to ensure the pairing is perfect.
Which Portuguese wine can I use?
Portugal produces a huge variety of wines that can be excellent choices for pairing with seafood dishes like this green grape shrimp tartare recipe.
As mentioned earlier, Vinho Verde will be best here. I served my tartare with Soalheiro Alvarinho from Quinta de Soalheiro Alvarinho. But you may also consider Encruzado or Loureiro – they are spectacular in complementing this tartare. 🙂
How long can I store the leftovers?
This tartare is best enjoyed fresh due to the potential risk of bacterial growth. I recommend consuming your shrimp tartare shortly after preparing it to ensure both safety and the best flavor and texture.
In case you have any leftovers of shrimp tartare (which I doubt :-)), you can store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for not longer than 1-2 days to maintain its quality and minimize the risk of foodborne illness.
Please don’t freeze this dish – freezing kills all flavors and good nutrients.
What does the shrimp tartare pair with?
You can serve this tartare with a fresh piece of bread, baguette, crackers, or crostini.
Enjoy this delicate and flavorful Grape Shrimp Tartare with your favorite drinks!
